Here are a few of the sketches I did back in July when we travelled up through the back of New South Wales to far west Queensland (Diamantina Gorge), making our way home across Queensland and back down the coast, camping in wild and remote places. I sketch when I find things I like, and when I get time to sit and immerse myself. Most of the trip was cold and windy, which is not ideal conditions for sketching!
Hi Anna these are wonderful sketches, great colours and full of information that you can use later.

Thanks Veronica – as time goes by I am gradually using my sketches more and more for artworks, when I started they were just a travel record, which of course they still are as well!

Anna- These are most lovely but you must know that ! I look at them and think what I wouldn’t give to just jot off something like this ….seriously I love the colours and the looseness …

Thank you Poppytump! I have fun doing them, but invariably I look at them and think the colour’s not right or the form is not properly captured … my feelings about them always improve some time later! This is the only time I work freely, all my other work is much tighter, so it is a great opportunity for just letting rip every now and then.

Love that … let rip 😀
In a totally different way that’s what I want to do when I have been on best behaviour being sensible among people I don’t know very well LOL

Ooh I know that feeling – you just want to be naughty (as a child I mean, nothing more suggestive!) and break out!

Thank you so much Karen! Yes, this was one I found almost buried in the sand. Lots more bones too, but I left them in peace. I think it is a small kangaroo or wallaby.

I love your sketches, they visually tell such a great story. They are so earthy and interesting to look at.

Thank you – my sketches are when I kind of let loose a bit, stylistically, and they remind me how much I just love to draw. Also, they are often a better reminder of a trip than the photos, strangely.
