The third drawing in the blot series is complete. I have decided to give the series the title of ‘Galaxies’ – ‘blots’ doesn’t really cover where these drawings have progressed to, even though that is where they began. The word Galaxies can cover more than just other physical worlds, it can be the worlds of our imagination. Something I am really enjoying about these is the input I get from viewers as to what they see in them. Some are quite literal, faces or insects, others much more ephemeral, to do with stories and ideas, brain activity and portals into distant worlds. All are equally valid. To me they are floating, drifting shapes, changing form and character, coming in and out of focus, each element has a story of its own, and these stories change from one day to another.
Above are details of this drawing.
Above are the first two drawings in this series.
All are made using Liquid Pencil and Caran d’Ache coloured pencils, graphite pencils on Magnani Corona paper, 35 x 25 cm.
So beautiful Anna – very creative

Thanks Leonie – it seemed a good title, specific but still quite general! Glad you’re enjoying the development.

I have given the details of how I start these works in a post from November called Blot Drawing – work in progress, and there are links to it from the previous post to this one. I am writing this on my iPad and it is difficult to hyperlink in my reply, so I hope you will be able to find all the information you need, but do message me again if I can answer any more questions. Thanks for your interest!

Thanks Gale – I’m finding these hard to leave alone, so I’m sure the series will continue! But I do have a print project awaiting attention …

“Galaxies” is a wonderful title. When I was reading your writing just now, the word ‘ephemeral’ just jumped out at me. This morning I thought of titles of the two I’m working on at present; “Ephemeron” and “Ephemora”. Hence, each in our own way we are illustrating transitory states. (Great minds think alike?)
Your drawings are jewel-like and dream-like and yet disquieting – as the forms are a little dangerous. They are sharp and will surely prick you if you are not careful. (Sleeping Beauty?)

Your titles are great – I’ll look forward to seeing the drawings. I really like the idea of things that are transitory or fleeting, things that are maybe just outside our vision or comprehension. I’m very pleased these still look dangerous – I don’t want them to lose their edge!

They haven’t lost their edge – or their sharp points.

Thank you so much Hannah – its nice for me to look back on this one. Its been transformed into a concertina book now, there is a later post on that, from August 2016. I still have a couple more of theses drawings in a preparatory state, when I have cleared the other things I am working on, I will return to them.
