During my recent visit to Tasmania, we were given the opportunity to stay in a beachside ‘shack’ for a few days. Nestled in the Freycinet National Park, a short distance from the beginning of the Wineglass Bay walk, close to Fisheries Beach, it was a delight to settle in there to enjoy the peace and scenery. It was an opportunity to read, walk, relax and for me, to draw. (See my previous post for more of the sketches.)
As a small thank you to the owner of the shack (actually a very comfortable house!) I have made up a drawing using my sketches from the local area, adding little annotations of names and places. Hopefully it will remind her of the peace and quiet of Freycinet when she is far away.
It is drawn using pen and ink and watercolour, on Arches Aquarelle 300 gsm paper, hot-pressed, 26 x 36 cm.

Fantastic part of the country. We stayed in one of the lodge cabins, where my partner had a very funny mis-adventure with the spa tub, sending water fountaining up and all over our bathroom.

We weren’t so sophisticated as to have a spa! But it really is a beautiful part of the country.

As usual, I am not just impressed with each individual drawing, but with the overall sense of page design. The shapes of the found objects around the outside of the page so beautifully ‘frame’ the objects on the inside.
I am sure that the owner of the shack will treasure this. It isn’t often that an artist gives away a stunning original as a thank you present.

Thanks Julie – I only hope it will be to her taste! We don’t know the owner at all (our contact was her brother), but I am hoping it will strike a chord for her, as she isn’t able to visit the shack very often, living overseas.

Do it Christine – and don’t worry too much about how they look as you work, with nearly all of mine I think they are going to be a disaster till the end. Being relaxed and loose gets the best results I find. Thank you so much for your lovely comment!
