The little 10 x10 cm oil paintings based on plant imagery keep on coming. There are over 50 that I still have, and more that have been sold. The size and square format is something I am very attached to – can’t see these stopping, but they are interspersed with larger oil paintings and works on paper in pencil and pen.
Love the colours. Thanks!

And there is no reason why these should stop. They are little riots of life and colour. I’ve just been in several different forests in the South Island of New Zealand. Your paintings remind me of the feeling inside the forests; ie fresh abundance and vibrant enthusiastic growth of the native plants. If I could sum up the foursome in just one word – FLOURISHING.

Thanks Julie, I love the word ‘flourishing’! It conjures up all sorts of images. The NZ forests must have been wonderful to be in.

Thank you Gale, they are a handy size, and I find I can either hang them or stack them up, as the canvases are on 5cm stretchers, so they are blocky enough to balance upright.

very nice paintings. Which colors did you use?

Thank you! I use a limited palette of indigo, ultramarine, cerulean, alizarin, cadmium red, windsor yellow and white. I find I can mix anything I want from these, and it helps to unify all the works somehow.

These are beautiful. I love the square format. I have been doing quite a bit of my animal portraits in squares too. There is something about the square . . . And thank you very much for liking I Dreamt in Green.
