Drafting film drawings

Colour was calling me, after working on several more monochrome pieces, so I decided to prepare some more pieces of drafting film to develop into colourful pieces.

Each of these was 30 x 30 cm, larger than the miniature pieces I was working on recently (see here) which are only 9 cm square. As before, I painted loosely in acrylic paint on one side of the drafting film, then turned it over to work into the marks with coloured pencil. Also, as usual, these were inspired by plant forms.

Even though all of these have their plant origins clearly shown, each has taken on other characteristics, and each one surprised me with what emerged.

I draw, I paint, I am a printmaker. Always searching for the interesting detail in the world around me.

  1. You must have been in high spirits when you created these. They radiate joyful exuberance and high energy. Once again I think of dance – perhaps around a maypole. These luminance artworks suggest autumn (even if this was subconsciously done). The colours are changing in our hemisphere and your drawings celebrate this.

    1. I tried to send a reply earlier, but my phone lost it! So now I am home and can write on my computer. Phew. Well, I don’t think I was particularly joyous, but I certainly wasn’t miserable either when I did these, I enjoyed them, even though I had serious doubts about one or two at the beginning. Having said that, rich colour really can lift the mood, much as I love monochrome. In fact, in the next day or so I am planning to prepare more to get working on. Maybe I can continue on a seasonal theme!
