This drawing was started over two years ago, and has undergone dramatic changes in that time. It has been abandoned for months at a time, but I always had to come back to it. Starting life as a series of blobs, in the same way as Elemental, first I worked into it with pencil, rubbed most of it out, then with brown-toned black ink, making some of the ink bleed by brushing on water. The next step was working in again with blue-toned black ink, and again forcing bleeds with water. Along the way fine linking lines were added, and now I am beginning to add punched holes.
However, this is not the end – more pen work is needed, and ultimately I am planning to cut it up to make a cube … there may even be some colour added, but probably not. For me this is a large work, A2.

SO interesting Anna … I keep seeing different little other worldly tiny beings … Arthur Rackham comes to mind too .
A long term project that has evolved and metamorphosed …. I really like it .

A really nice progression- I understand the protracted process but unlike you I can only work on one drawing at a time and there are times when it just becomes a “job”. Like the way that you have managed to give the impression that it is an etching . Beautiful.

Most of the time I just work on something till it is done but more often than not I have several things on the go at once, I think I need to feel there is something else to be getting on with if one thing isn’t working! This has been a strange one, in that it hasn’t really had a unified feel, as a whole it just looks like a blob, but I have loved the elements, and keep surprising myself with how it unfolded, which I think is what kept drawing me back to it. I do like the thought it is like an etching, but I think in the end I will transform it into a three-dimensional object to give it more meaning.
